Champagne Spill Lands Peace Prize Supporter in Jail

A woman was arrested in Hong Kong yesterday for accidentally splashing a guard while she commemoratedLiu Xiaobo's Nobel Peace Prize win with some bubbly. Ip Ho-yee, 22, was celebrating outside China's main government office in Hong Kong when her celebratory champagne splashed an unsuspecting guard. "It was a minor incident. I never guessed that opening a bottle of champagne would lead to this," she says of her arrest.
China's critics say the champagne dust-up shows the Communist Party's tightening grip on the semi-autonomous city. "This is an absurd case," says one rights campaigner. "This just shows who's the boss." To find out why Chinese authorities and even some Chinese dissidents are angry about the award, click here.
